Around midday a woman’s bag was snatched as she packed her vehicle near the intersection of Gwydir and Auburn streets.
The offender – described as a male, approximately 15-16 years, dark complexion wearing a blue hooded jumper and dark pants – fled on foot in a westerly direction.
The female victim was shaken but not injured by the incident. Police from Barwon Local Area Command conducted an immediate canvas of the area.
They are keen to speak with any persons who were in the area or may have information as to the identity of the persons involved.
Superintendent Gelina Talbot said “thieves often operate in shopping centers, car parks and public toilets”.
“Bag snatchers try to surprise their victim and often target females who appear vulnerable or elderly,” she said.
“Being alert and aware of your surroundings is the best defence.”
Barwon LAC Police are currently investigating possible links to a previous bag snatch which occurred at a local motel where an 80-year-old woman had her bag snatched as she entered her room on Tuesday night last week.
