Coach, Chris Binge, said first grade’s first 25 minutes were incredible which saw an 18-6 lead.
“I think after that the boys just fell away and forgot what we were playing for, which gave the opportunity to Glen to get back in the game and at half time it was around 18-10,” he said.
“We were still up, but we had to stay there, so we had a chat at half time about some of the things we were doing wrong and then I think the boys completely fell asleep.”
The Boomerangs gathered themselves in the last 25 minutes of the game to use their strong power in the middle combined with their forward pack and centres.
“In the last 20 minutes we showed Glen Innes that we were really a class above. We started completing sets and we scored three tries. It was a bit of a grinder game but we got there,” he said.
The final score was 36-28 to the Moree Boomerangs.
“Jarom Haines has returned back to the club from Newcastle and Richard Smith has also returned after a few years with the Boars. Those two along with Zach Sampson and Maddison Smith were outstanding and we’re ready to step up our game this weekend,” Binge said.
The reserve grade went out wanting the win, and the win is what they got.
“They played really good. I missed the second half of the game but their first half was just outstanding,” he said.
The Moree Boomerangs’ reserve grade smashed Glen 38-16.
“I heard great things about Stuart Porter and how well he played for the reserves on the weekend so congrats to him. I think the forwards Ed Saunders and Anthony Robinson also played a spectacular game for reserves,” Binge said.
Ladies league tag, although unsuccessful, played a tough game against Glen with a score of 12-6 to Glen Innes at half time.
“They didn’t end up so well. It was 38-16 with the win going to Glen Innes but the ladies did everything they had been training for. It’s just their second half that let them down,” he said.
Binge said he’d be working with the ladies to turn their loss into improvement.
“I still think the ladies should take away confidence because they all played great league tag. We’ve all got things to work on in preparation for this weekend against Guyra at Guyra. It’s going to be a bit cold but from an overall club point of view we’re striving to maintain our movement in the ladder,” he said
