The ladies league tag, under 18s and first grade faced the Warialda Wombats, which gave the sides a chance to see how their pre-season training had paid off.
First grade coach Trevor Tighe was impressed with the crowd.
“I think it followed on from the nines competition. It was a very entertaining few rounds of football and gave people a taste of what the season will be like. I think the Boars impressed the crowd on Friday night so hopefully they keep coming back,” he said.
After watching the “future football stars”, the Moree minis at 5.45pm, the ladies league tag took the field.
The ladies had a chance to test out new plays, and balls skills which worked in their favour after winning against Warialda 26-4.
Following was the under 18s and Moree proved they would be a force to reckon with in the upcoming season. The under 18s defeated Warialda 28-0.
The last game of the evening was first grade and Tighe said the boys started off strong.
“Everyone played exactly how I wanted them to and at half time we were sitting around 39-10. The second half was a bit slower for the boys and there were a few little things I picked up that we will have to work out but overall they all played well,” he said.
The result was in Moree’s favour 44-22.
“Brenton Cochran was a standout. I just felt like every time he touched the ball it would lead to a try or a break but our entire forward pack was great,” Tighe said.
On April 11 the Boars will start the Group 19 season in Glenn Innes.
“I think the whole club is going to have a great season. We have some new faces and eager players, it’s going to be hard to pick a first grade side but I think that will make our reserve grade strong and put pressure on first grade to play their best,” he said.
