The Green Army is an Australian Government project aimed to conserve the environment while engaging the community by training locals between the ages of 17 to 24 to do the work.
The work will be situated around Boobera Lagoon and will start on February 16.
For 23 weeks participants will be trained and undertake activities such as regeneration and revegetation, weed treatment, erosion control and letter and debris removal.
Anyone aged from 17 to 24 years are eligible to apply for the position of a participant or Green Army team supervisor.
You must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia, out of school and looking for employment.
Recruitment group Manpower’s Kylie Davies said participants could contact Moree Plains Shire Council’s Kylie Benge for local help to apply for a position.
“We are seeking young, enthusiastic and motivated individuals who have a passion for the environment and genuine interest in becoming a Green Army participant. Candidates for the positions must apply by emailing a cover letter expressing your interest and resume,” she said.
All applications must be emailed to kylie.davies@au.manpowergroup.com
Member for Parkes, Mark Coulton, was happy to hear of the project’s go-ahead.
“Moree Plains Shire Council have been actively involved in planning this project and I am very appreciative of their support and cooperation,” he said.
Mr Coulton also expressed his hopes that the Green Army project would have a positive impact on the lives of residents at Toomelah and Boggabilla.
“There have been significant social problems in the community at Toomelah and Boggabilla. I believe that this program is a step in the right direction in improving employment prospects for residents,” he said.
The Boobera Lagoon site is known as the resting place of the Rainbow Serpent, and is a significant place for the local community.
