ELF on the Shelf is a genius idea to keep kids on their best behaviour in the lead-up to Christmas, but it’s often the adult humans who get a real kick out of the adventure.

A human purchases an elf who arrives in your home on December 1 and who goes back with Santa on Christmas Eve. He sits on a shelf all throughout the day keeping an eye on the children in the house, and at night travels back to the North Pole to report to Santa who has been naughty and nice.
And this is where the real fun begins...
Some nights the elves seem to get up to all sorts of mischief and the tiny humans in the household wake up to their elf in different locations and having got up to different activities.
Dibs Cush from Robin’s Nest for Children adopted Elfonso and Gelfriend last year when the elves were introduced to different businesses in Heber Street, but this year the pair have got up to even more adventures exploring what Moree has to offer, sewing, visiting the pool... and the product has grown hugely around the world.
“There’s no Australian distributor so we have to ship them from the US. We got 28 units last year and more than 70 this year. We could have had at least 70 more. Because it takes so long we were unable to order more. There was something like 10,000 on backorder in October,” she said.
Within minutes of the first photo going up on social media this year Mrs Cush received phone calls and messages, selling out very quickly.
The elves’ adventures can be followed on the business’s Facebook and Instagram pages.
This year the most popular post was the day after the Sydney siege of Elfonso spreading peace.
“It’s all just a bit of fun,” Mrs Cush said. “People don’t have to be elaborate with what they do. It’s just about spreading the magic and making Christmas special,” she said.
