The local has grown up on the Moree course and on Friday the community came together to show their love during a tough time in his life.
On August 8 Brown was diagnosed with lymphoma, and further testing also diagnosed him with metastatic bowel cancer, which at this stage in the medical world is not curable. It is a case of management with chemotherapy and medication for now.
The day was bigger and better than Brown, his family and friends ever imagined possible.
“The generosity of the community and beyond has been unbelievable,” his sister, Molly said.
“It is amazing how everyone comes together to help those in need.”
On Saturday John said he was “blown away” by the support.
“I'm finding it hard to put in words,” he said.
“A massive thank you to everyone that played and supported the day in whatever way they did. I am truly thankful.
“I am going through a tough time but knowing so many people are there for me, locals and from others areas, makes me a stronger person to fight this battle. I hope everyone had a blast and thank you so much!”
