Throughout the day Dymock coached the children the basic skills of cricket including batting, bowling and running between the wickets.

He said he was surprised by the ages of those who attended.

“Of the 14 we had, six were over 10, there were three six-year-olds and a couple of sevens,” he said.

“There were a lot of new boys and girls that I didn’t know about included in that number too which was surprising.”

Dymock admitted to being disappointed that cricket was not as popular in country areas as he felt it should be.

“The North West area has always been strong, but it isn’t anymore for whatever reason,” he said.

“Maybe Cricket Australia doesn’t promote the sport as well in country areas as well as it perhaps should.”

Throughout the day Dymock explained the correct way to bowl without putting pressure on a player’s back and shared a few stories with the children about former greats Dennis Lillee and Jeff Thompson.

Dymock said all the different skills and drills which were completed throughout the day were suitable for all ages.

“It’s the fourth year I’ve been doing a clinic like this and the numbers have stayed about the same over that period,” he said.

The day finished with a game out in the middle where every player batted and bowled.
