DURING the school holidays it can be tough to keep the kids entertained, especially when the drought is still pulling at many locals’ pockets; that’s why Centacare has decided to host a pop up cinema in Mungindi and Pallamallawa.

Media relations manager and drought coordinator, Emelia Saban, said the pop up cinema was free for anyone who would like to attend.
“The event is part of the Australian Government’s drought support package, aimed at assisting farming communities and those impacted by the drought to access free support services,” she said.
Showing at the pop up cinema will be Disney’s Frozen followed by the Australian hit Red Dog.
“There’s definitely a theme of mateship, support, and resilience in the films,” Ms Saban said.
Centacare, along with local community groups, will run a barbecue, supply soft drinks and make sure everyone has fresh popcorn.
“Some highlights for those who attend will be to have a chance to chat and catch up on a few hours of rest and relaxation. We’ll be busy getting the five by three metre inflatable screen up,” she said.
This is one of the many drought support events happening throughout the region.
“We’ve tried to cover a few different communities. Stress doesn’t discriminate; we all need a night off and some time out every now and again,” Ms Saban said. “It’s a chance to come and have a good time, and leave your worries behind, even for a few hours. If you know someone who is stressed out, tired, and busy, it’s really important to check in with them and see how they’re travelling.
“Invite them along, offer to pick them up if you can we’ll be there with lots of information about free, confidential support, including phone, on-farm, and iPad support which can really help to take away some of the pressure people might be feeling.”
The pop up cinema will appear at Mungindi’s town hall on Friday evening at 5pm and at Pallamallawa’s Rigby Oval on Saturday at the same time.
