THEY won the grand final last year, but Moree Bulls’ second grade coach, Josh Connell, believes victory over Pirates this weekend would be a more pleasing result.

The Bulls have used 45 players this year as their playing ranks were picked apart by first grade at various stages throughout the season.
“Ultimately our job is to ensure the success of first grade, so whatever we get is a bonus,” Connell said.
“To put two (titles) back-to-back is always incredibly enjoyable and the main thing we look at is that this year the guys have worked hard for the results.”
The Bulls charged into the grand final on the back of a comprehensive 37-20 win in the major semi-final a fortnight ago and will be full of confidence.
“To get a win up last time was good because it showed what we can do, but the disappointing thing was the 20 points were the soft points we leaked so we’ve got to take those out of it,” Connell said.
The Bulls’ coach acknowledged not a lot had changed from their 2013 success, but said there was little doubt the new competition had posed many challenges.
“Twelve weeks straight against good competition is something we haven’t seen for a fair while with no breaks so that’s been pretty taxing,” he said.
“It’s been about injury management.”
Connell said the focus for his side would be on defence, patience and not dropping their heads during the ebb and flow of the contest.
“You see some sides get to the finals and get carried away, but we’ll take the points every time we can, play field position and hopefully convert when opportunities present themselves.”
The game at Dangar Park, Narrabri will kick off at 11.15am on Saturday and Connell said the side would like as many supporters as possible to travel.
“Narrabri’s good in that way; if it can’t be at home there are not many other places you’d rather be than Narrabri.
“It’s only an hour away so the local guys will travel and there seems to be a fair contingent ready to come down.”
Following the game, the Moree rugby club will be open from 5.30pm with a full bar and barbecue and all players and supporters are welcome.
