At Thursday’s meeting councillors moved to host up to three ordinary meetings in the shire’s villages for residents to feel more included and raise local issues.
Councillors discussed how issues relating to Mungindi, for instance, could be dealt with during the meeting hosted in the village.
Cr Tramby suggested councillors travel to the villages early and as part of their committee meeting, inspect the town for any noticeable issues.
Councillors Rodney Brazel and Sue Price moved the recommendation.
Cr Price said it was an easy way to engage the community.
“It’s very important to include the outer lying villages and this is a great way to have a chat with some of the locals to speak about things that may be concerning them,” she said.
Mayor, Katrina Humphries, said the council was keen to raise the level of interaction.
“Holding our meetings in villages means we can do site tours and engage with locals about the issues facing their community,” Cr Humphries said.
“It will also give residents in the immediate area the opportunity to be heard formally during the public forum sessions of the ordinary meetings,” she said.
There would also be the chance for school children, and residents who have never attended a meeting to do so, and learn how the meetings run.
The council will advertise dates and venues of when the councillors will be visiting.
“We encourage residents to contact council, before the meetings, about things they feel are important for their community,” Cr Humphries said.
