After the weekend’s tough, nine games at Armidale the two teams showed their competition how fast they could improve.
Division one player, Rachel Cubis, said they won six from nine games after playing Gunnedah once and Inverell, Narrabri, Tamworth and Armidale twice.
“We’re currently second on the ladder with Tamworth only two points ahead of us.
“We get two chances at the cherry but we can do it in one,” she said.
Early in the day, division one had a disappointing loss to Narrabri, one Cubis said should not have happened.
“We came off the court deflated, so we had a laugh about it and smashed the competition in the last four games of the day.
“The good thing about the division one teams is that we are all pretty even; there is no standout team so it’s up to who wants it the most on the day,” she said.
Cubis said the finals would be interesting and the team were going to focus on keeping possession of the ball.
“It helps we’ve got a good relationship on and off the court so it’s good to be able to trust that each of our 12 players will do their job when their on the court,” she said.
Division one placed fourth in the competition last year.
Division two will also have a chance of climbing the ladder at the weekend as they sit in fourth place.
“Division two won five games out of nine. They ended up finishing on 12 points and they were only on two points after round one, so they received 10 points on Sunday,” she said.
Division two’s younger netballers stepped up their game and according to Cubis, were a key to knocking Inverell out of the competition.
“Division two didn’t even place last year so it’s been a great improvement for both sides,” she said.
They played group 14, Tamworth, Narrabri, Inverell and Armidale during the day.
“The games will be an hour instead of 30 minutes and I’d imagine they’ll play in the indoor courts over in Tamworth, so it’s going to be a change in atmosphere and a different game,” Cubis said.
