Mr Quirk manages the Moree hospital and oversees the operations of the Narrabri, Mungindi, Wee Waa, Pilliga, Gwabegar, Boggabri, Bingara, Warialda, Boggabilla and Toomelah health services.
He said he was honoured to be recognised by Hunter New England Health and his work colleagues.
“It’s all about direction for the team and delivering consistent and equal service to the community,” he said.
Mr Quirk said his position as manager was made easier by the “high level of loyalty, dedication and advocacy the staff has for their jobs and town”.
“Working in the health industry, you have a terribly important role. Often people you meet are going through a venerable time and you have to be mindful of how you act and care for each and every patient, and every day you touch people’s lives,” he said.
Mr Quirk said he was grateful, proud and looked forward to continuing and improving his role.
During the night Hunter New England Health representatives said Mr Quirk was a “leader in the true sense of the word”.
“David has built up the Mehi Cluster leadership team and he is always encouraging opinions, speaking up for staff and encouraging his team to deliver excellence for every patient every time,” they said.
They described Mr Quirk as an innovative thinker.
“As a team the Mehi Cluster has a high level of accountability to meet all operational goals and they can only achieve those because David has an excellent capacity to interpret and communicate organisational goals and priorities for all staff.”
Mr Quirk also thanked the local communities within the Mehi Cluster for supporting each health service.
