Munro is a member of the NSW men’s team who travelled to Adelaide at the end of last month to compete in the Australian Darts Championships.
Throughout the duration of the week there were a number of events played which included the Peter McMenamin Cup, Australian teams event, Australian men’s and ladies doubles, as well as singles and mixed doubles.
Munro was in the NSW green team which brought home the gold medal for the Peter McMenamin Cup, while NSW also achieved overall champion status which enabled them to bring home another gold medal.
Munro said he was pleased with his team’s result but conceded his performance in the singles was disappointing.
“I didn’t go real well in the singles because the focus wasn’t really there,” he said.
Each event played allowed players to earn points for their state. The further a player proceeded in the tournament the more points they accumulated.
Munro represented New South Wales as a junior for three years, but this achievement is only in his second year as a NSW representative player.
“I started playing a lot when I was younger but then stopped when I was about 14. I’ve since been playing on and off for the last 12 years and my parents played a bit as well so that was how I got my interest in it,” he said.
It was the first time in 35 years NSW had been awarded as the champion state and Munro said he was privileged to be a part of such an achievement.
“It was a great experience and now I’ll just wait until next year to do it again,” he said.
