A short while ago residents, mainly women (but there werea couple of local firies), were asked to donate any unwanted bras.
These items were desperately required for the women in remote parts of Australia and Papua New Guinea.
Kylie Kerr from Rotary read an article indicating the required need.
She put a proposal to the club, which was accepted, and resulted in the donation of about 35kg worth of product.
This is an extract from a letter received from a member of the FAIM team that delivered some of the items of support...
Our FAIM team has recently returned from Kokoda, PNG where we had a very successful and enjoyable two weeks.
The main job undertaken was to start the building of an Aids clinic at the hospital, as well as to do maintenance at the hospital, and install three tanks.
We also took with us a large amount of donated goods including about half the large collection of bras that you entrusted us.
Several of the men in our group volunteered to help in the distribution of these bras but the women agreed they had plenty of other work to do.
We used the hospital as the distribution point and distributed them to hospital staff, patients and their families, and any other women we came in contact with.
All the women were delighted and very grateful, saying that is was very difficult to buy bras in PNG.
They have asked me to extend their thanks to all involved in the collection.
