Member for Barwon, Kevin Humphries, said the recruits were “a fantastic win for Barwon” and would ensure the community had an increased police presence in making the streets safe.
“Our local officers do a fantastic job and I am thrilled we are getting a further seven officers and I warmly welcome them to our community,” Mr Humphries said.
Minister for Police and Emergency Services Michael Gallacher said this graduating class was made up of individuals that came from diverse careers and experiences, bringing new skills and ways to look at issues for the police force.
“The range of skills, languages, backgrounds and past careers amongst this class is an important asset to the future of policing in NSW,” he said.
Probationary Constable Rosendahl graduated from the academy on Friday, and arrived in Moree on Monday in time for his first shift yesterday.
He said the police training was tough. He had to undergo defensive practical training as well as academic studies into the law.
Probationary Constable Rosendahl was originally posted to Marrickville in Sydney, but changed to Moree as he prefers the lifestyle in smaller towns.
“I’ve heard of (Moree) before... it’s good. It’s a new experience from the coast; a lot different but good.”
When he progresses through the ranks in the force, Probationary Constable Rosendahl would like to be part of the dog squad, doing proactive policing such as drug and bomb detection.
To start off in Moree he will be doing general police duties.
“I got into the police force because I wanted to help the community in a way my peers don’t. I get to do a different job to your regular nine-to-five, and it’s a job with heaps of different opportunities.”
Leading Senior Constable Gary Ward said Barwon LAC definitely needed more police officers. “The more the better.”
He said that usually just before a course marches out the station would know if they were getting a new officer.
