There will be 140 children from eight schools in Moree for the day which is hosted by Performance Golf in a bid to grow the game across Australia.
The day is designed to introduce the game of golf to children who might not normally get the chance to play.
Fourteen PGA professionals, including Moree Golf Club professional Matt McGuire, will also be on board to assist players looking to improve their game.
It is rare for 14 PGA professionals to be available to attend an event which will cost children participating nothing.
McGuire is excited at the chance provided to the children.
“It gives me access to the kids and the teachers for follow-up programs,” he said.
“Of the 140 kids I’m guessing 120 or 130 haven’t played before.
“It provides a good chance to grow the game in Moree,”
he said.
McGuire is also eager to work with Newton and Blacklock.
Newton is a former professional golfer of the 1970s and 1980s.
He was one of Australia’s most successful golfers during that period notching up nine victories in PGA tour events.
Blacklock was one of rugby league’s most popular players in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
In 189 professional games he scored 154 tries, making him one of the most prolific try scorers in the history of the game.
“If you are younger you might not know who Jack is but he is an absolute superstar of the game,” McGuire said.
“It is a huge honour to have him here.
“Nathan is a good ambassador for the kids to look up to,” he said.
“He is from Tingha which isn’t far from here and he has had a great playing and post playing career.
“He is also a good golfer and plays off a handicap of one or two,” he said
The day will begin at 9am and conclude at 2.30pm.
There will also be a nine-hole shot gun event for club members providing them a chance to play with the professionals at 3.30pm.
