Shamus Touhy, 22, and Matthew Piscopo, 19, broke out of Malmsbury Youth Justice Centre on Saturday night.

Piscopo was arrested without incident at a home in Ballarat on Monday morning and will face court on charges of escape lawful custody and criminal damage before being returned to custody.

Fugitive Squad detectives continue to search for Touhy, who is described as 170cm tall with a thin build and red medium-length hair.

Police do not believe he is violent, but members of the public are advised to call triple zero if they see him and not approach him.

The Malmsbury facility has a chequered past, with 20 prisoners escaping in 2017 after assaulting a guard and stealing his keys and inmates locked in their cells in 2019 after workers were attacked with a cricket bat.

The Department of Justice and Community Safety has been contacted for comment.
