Police had been tracking the 61-year-old across the country during that time and found him in Tasmania.

On February 25, 1993, officers in Prahran in Melbourne's southeast approached a vehicle that was identified as stolen that month during a burglary in St Kilda East.

The then 33-year-old allegedly drove at the officers and struck them with the vehicle.

One officer, 22, was thrown from the bonnet to the ground, injuring her hands and knees, while another officer, 25, suffered career-ending back injuries.

The man was later arrested in South Yarra and charged with 22 offences including conduct endangering life, assaulting police and failing to stop at an accident.

He was bailed in Melbourne Magistrates Court in March 1993 to attend a committal hearing in July but he didn't show up.

After officers found the man in the Hobart suburb of Oakdowns, he attended Prahran Police Station on Wednesday.

He was bailed for a committal mention on August 4.

"It does not matter what offence you commit, who you commit it against, or when it was committed," Detective Senior Sergeant Timothy Moreland said.

"We will not give up our investigation, we will track you down and you will face the consequences for your actions."
