The thee-man team of Kevin McNab, Shane Rose and Andrew Hoy finished behind gold medallists Great Britain with France taking bronze.
For veteran rider Hoy, it was a fifth Olympic medal. And soon after a sixth followed.
Hoy backed up that teams medal with a bronze in the individual jumping final.
The 62-year-old, who made his Olympics debut in 1984 and is competing at a record eighth Games, had previously won three golds and a silver.

Meanwhile the push by Australia's men's 470 team of Mat Belcher and Will Ryan to secure an Olympic medal is on hold with sailing delayed due to the lack of wind on the Enoshima course.
The venue was supposed to host the final two races in the men's and women's 470 classes, as well as the medal deciders in the 49er class for both genders later Monday.
The competitions have now been postponed until Tuesday.
The other huge news from Tokyo on Day 10 was that Simone Biles is on her way back.
The 2016 Olympic gymnastics champion will return to competition in the balance beam final on Tuesday, a little over a week after stepping away from the meet to focus on her mental health.
