Ballet Workshops Australia will run a series of dance classes in Moree which will include local students and others travelling from places such as Inverell and Armidale.
BWA has visited Moree several times over the past few years, working with local dance studio owner and teacher, Chelsie Assef, to provide extra opportunities with guest teachers for local dancers of all ages, including adults.
The workshops are run by guest teachers with international experience as professional dancers, teachers and choreographers who take great delight in giving back through their artform and providing extra dance opportunities in more remote areas.
As a result of COVID many Australian dancers have had to return from their positions in overseas dance companies temporarily, which is tragic but has had a positive impact for BWA students. Dancers such as Mia Sfara, who will visit Moree this weekend, have been able to spend some time coaching students and sharing their experience and skills whilst back home.
BWA is incredibly fortunate to have dancers so willing to give their time and energy to regional students and everyone is very excited for Mia to visit Moree.
Mia trained with Tanya Pearson Classical Coaching Academy in Sydney before accepting a position at the prestigious Dutch National Ballet School where she completed her training before working with the company. Mia has since worked with other European ballet companies, Opera Australia and on several independent projects. Mia was due to start performing with the English National Ballet Company last year but as a result of COVID and the cancellations of live shows she had to return to Australia instead and BWA is making the most of her time here.
There is always a buzz in the communities around the workshops and it is a lovely way for people to connect, meet other dancers and enjoy the beauty of movement and music together in a supported learning environment.
BWA provides classes across a range of dance styles for all ability and experience levels and have a particularly keen group of adult beginner ballet dancers in the North West NSW region, most of whom have learned to dance online during COVID. The online adult beginners are a dedicated and wonderful group of women who turn up onscreen each week and have made remarkable progress, so it is particularly exciting when BWA gets a chance to visit and teach them in person.
BWA is incredibly proud of their Moree dancers and would love the wider community to share in their pride and feel welcome to join in and take part. For more information on the workshops and to book visit the BWA website.
