The Moree Golf Club recently celebrated its presentation night as part of a huge weekend for the club.
It all kicked off on Friday night with a chipping comp from the first tee to the adjacent ninth green with 97 shots played in an attempt to get into the final. The result of the final was a victory for Gary Taunton with Adam Brown getting second place and Gary also taking out third. $970 was raised for junior golf. The competition was sponsored by Agriware, Burey Earthmoving and IOR Rural.
Saturday saw the playing of the JB10, sponsored by Jacko Taylor and Bron Cosh, for the ladies which was taken out by Cecelia Baker in a putt-off from Brenda Carrigan with Julie Rushby coming third. The men played the GT19, sponsored by Gary and Leigh Taunton, which came down to president, Adrian King, against vice-president, Dave Devney, opposed on the 18th hole. After both making a bit of a mess playing the hole, Dave prevailed for the victory. Ben Kirkby placed third.
That evening the club hosted their presentation night where guests were entertained by comedian Steve Allison and Kerry O'Keeffe prior to acknowledging the trophy and championship winners. Matt Moore was the 2020 men's club champion and also took out the "Silvertails" match-play, which was a great effort. Up and coming junior Annabelle Abrahamsen won the ladies club championship and well as the junior girl's championship. The junior boys champion was Rhys Devney, B Grade Men's was won by Adrian King and C Grade Men's was won by Mark Carrigan. The B Grade Ladies was won by Tammy Townsend and C Grade Ladies was won by Kay Gillan.
John Reynolds and Gerald Humphries both received Certificates of Recognition as newly elected Life Members of the Moree Golf Club.
Then, on Sunday the club had their traditional opening shot of the new season and a four-person ambrose event. The opening shot this year was played by Gary Taunton who resigned from the board at the last election after 10 years of service and many hours of volunteer work for the club. There was a great field of 144 players at the event for a full team of golfers. It was won by the team of Reg Austin, Dave Gulliver, Peter Kellett and Steve O'Hara. The event for a team with a non-handicapped player was won by Nov and Sachin Ramsamy, Jed Beasley and Jess Cayirylys.
