The storm hit at about 11pm on Monday, December 21, with an impressive display of lightning and wind gusts reaching 89 kilometres per hour.
Rain continued throughout the night, with Moree recording a total of 49.2 millimetres, according to the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM).

The storm caused blackouts at the time, however the power was restored by the morning.
It also brought a number of trees and branches down across town, keeping council crews busy on Tuesday morning.
The BoM has issued a flood watch for the Gwydir River following the heavy rainfall on Monday night.
Rainfall associated with a slow-moving low-pressure trough has generated moderate to heavy rain over the NSW North West Slopes and Plains overnight Monday.
The weather system is expected to cause minor to moderate flooding of the Gwydir River.
A number of roads remain closed in the shire due to the flash flooding and sudden rises in water levels.
Terry Hie Hie Road, Berrigal Creek Road, Penny's Road are closed due to flooding.
Residents are reminded not to attempt to drive through floodwater and obey road signs.
