It's a rare and unique feat that was achieved by winning the singles, pairs, triples and fours competitions all in the one calendar year.
The Moree Services Club officially opened their bowling greens in May 1971 and every year since then the members have strived for success amongst themselves to see who is the best of the best.
While a few members have won the coveted singles title a number of times and some have got the double (pairs and singles), no one has won all four competitions in the one year to claim the Moree Services grand slam!
This was not the first time someone in Moree has won the grand slam - Peter Hobday of Moree held this unique title but this was at the old bowls club.
This is the first time that someone has won the title at the Moree and District Services Club.
Wayne stared playing bowls when he was 13 years old when his father Vince, known locally as Popeye, took him along to play carpet bowls at the "new" club.
Family ties encouraging people to start playing bowls is well known and even today the Moree Services Bowls Club still has a strong father, son, cousin, nephew connection.
In fact, Wayne's uncle, long-standing and well regarded patron of the club, Les "Lofty" Tighe remarked recently that this is a reflection on Wayne's commitment to the sport, saying he was "very proud to see my nephew win the grand slam".
Wayne left the sport for a few years to pursue other interests but the lure of the green was too much for him and he came back to the sport he loves in 2013, immediately finding success winning the pairs competition.
Wayne has won many titles since returning to the sport but the grand slam is his crowning achievement from a personal perspective.
The knowledge and commitment to the sport eventually saw Wayne take on an active role within the organising committee and 2020 has also seen Wayne taking on the unenviable position of president.
All this would not be possible if not for the generous support of SG and KJ Smith of Moree who have again been the sponsors of all the A grade competitions in 2020.
