The proposal to re-establish this zones that expired in May went on public exhibition in June and council received five submissions in response, including NSW Police, the Anti-Discrimination Board and Moree Local Aboriginal Land Council who all supported the proposal.
Moree and District Services Club sought a variation to the zone to permit alcohol to be served on public reserve adjoining their site, but council ruled to keep the zone as is, with licensing for specific events still possible.
The alcohol free zones are generally located within 300 metres of outlets supplying alcohol in Boggabilla and Mungindi and within 500 metres in Moree, and will be re-established for a period of four years across the three towns, until July 2024.
Councillor Sue Price said it's a great idea and the re-established zones will help police in all three towns.
"It helps them do their job and it helps keep all the areas in our town safer," she said.
Council plans to have new signage outlining the zones to be erected within the next three to four weeks.
