Dozens of mobile phones ranging from early smartphones to modern-day handsets have been seized by police investigating the "ferocious and brutal" death of a 42-year-old man at a NSW unit complex.

Vergel Velasquez died in hospital on New Year's Eve, a day after police found him with severe head injuries in the stairwell of a Girraween unit block in Sydney's west.
After a public appeal for information last week, police on Friday seized 42 phones from a home in Moree.
Video from the operation - released on Monday - appears to show at least 26 handsets were found in the bottom of a chest of drawers in the home.
Some of the phones have cracked screens.
Police on Monday said all will undergo forensic investigation.
A white station wagon was seized from Moree late last month, with police talking to its 49-year-old male owner.
Police on April 28 also released CCTV of six men spotted in the vehicle at a Girraween service station on the afternoon Mr Velasquez was found.
Images of three of the men spotted in other locations on the day have also been released, with detectives hoping members of the public can identify them.
Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty late last month described the attack on Mr Velasquez as "ferocious and brutal".
He said the motive for the attack remained unclear and the victim appeared to have been "really a non-violent person".
