It will be a different looking season for the senior men's side after forming a joint venture with the Narrabri Eagles for the upcoming season, but the club is still focused on the other grades.

They have submitted a women's team into the AFL North West competition after being unable to field a side last season, as well as an under-17s team.

The Suns won the under-17s competition last year, but are now faced with the challenge of a large contingent of the squad moving up into the senior ranks.

"Our juniors have gotten a bit low purely because the vast majority have aged into seniors," Moree Suns president Ashley Jones said.

"We're trying to recruit more, whether it's through AFL9s or something else."

Jones said the Suns AFL9s competition has been a good way of promoting the club.

"It's probably developed the most interest in the club in recent years to be honest," he said.

The club is planning to host a few come and try days for both the juniors and women over the next few weeks.

A session is being planned for Saturday, February 29, but a location is just being finalised.

Sessions for juniors are also being planned, which will be open to boys and girls aged 10 and up, with a date yet to be finalised at this time.

Jones is hoping to see numbers grow at training over the next few weeks.

"We definitely need to see more women there. Hopefully the come and try days get some more feedback and more numbers," he said.

Aside from that, Jones has been pleased with how preseason has been going so far, with some "good numbers" at training sessions to start the year.

"We're getting around the 15 range. That's pretty good numbers for us," Jones said.

After training at Boughton Oval since the start of the year, the Suns will move their training sessions to the Moree Showground starting next week, held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm.
