Moree were beaten by 115 runs in a one sided affair in very humid conditions, which Moree and District Cricket Association president Glen Holland said had a big impact on the game.

"By the time the boys had bowled 50 overs they were a mess and there wasn't much left in the tank," Holland said.

Gwydir elected to bat after winning an important toss, and batted out the 50 overs to make 9-179, led by Tom Groth (68).

In sad news for Moree, after bowling five overs, Alf Newman had to be flown to Bingara hospital then flown to Newcastle to have surgery to fix two blockages in his heart.

"He seems alright. He's recovered through the operation," Holland said.

"He's an old legend of bowling, but that might have been his last game."

Newman was able to take one wicket before leaving the field while Jack Montgomery (2-26) and Chris Holland (2-50) took two wickets apiece. Beau McMahon, Sam Brown and Ed Montgomery each took one.

After a tough 50 overs in the field, Moree were bowled out for 64, handing Gwydir the win.

"The boys just didn't bat well, didn't concentrate hard," Holland said.

"It's sort of a Moree trend. We'll either get them in the first session or get out in the first session."

Ben Day (14) and Wyatt Roberts (11) were the only Moree batsmen to reach double figures.

Brendon Reynolds did the damage with the ball for Gwydir, taking 5-10.

Despite a disappointing end, Holland said it was still a "good" season overall.

"We would've loved to have got a home final but we'll work on that next year," he said.

"And we now know the standard we need to get to because Gwydir were very good all round.

"Hats off to Gwydir, they were far too good for us on the day."

Holland is hoping to see a "little bit more commitment" from the players, with one or two changes required to the side each game, but he always had a "core squad of 13 or 14 to call on."

"Thanks to all the boys that played for their efforts and heads up and we'll go again next year," Holland said.
