Amid one of the century's worst droughts, The North Star Sporting Club has become a refuge for many rural families, a spot to find a cool drink and respite from the relentless dust.
The club was established in 1975 by locals. It is used for many events including campdraft, cutting, showjumping, polo tournaments, the motocross trail bike event, Pony Club and numerous field days. It is a meeting place for educational, cultural, social and well-being events.
The cocktail event aims to raise much needed funds for the sporting club, ensuring it can remain open into 2020.
The cocktail evening is being held on Saturday, February 29 at the club itself. Dubbed 'A Night at The Star' organiser Emma Ostwald is hoping the event will draw Goondiwindi locals.
"It's going to be a fantastic night with buses running to and from Goondiwindi," Ms Ostwald said.
"It's the perfect opportunity for locals to come out and help support their regional neighbours. I think everyone is looking for something to get their mind off the drought, even if it's just for one night," she said.
Set under the starry skies of North Star, the night will include live music, delicious food and a cash bar. All proceeds will go directly to the North Star Sporting Club to ensure the hub can remain a staple for the local farming families.
And it wouldn't be a fundraiser without a suite of must-have raffle prizes. Two nights at The Peninsula Apartments in Mooloolaba and one night at the locally owned Faraway Domes Luxury Eco Accommodation are two of the major prizes being drawn on the night.
Raffle, event and bus tickets can all be purchased from www.trybooking.com/BHGUO with more event information available via the 'A Night at The Star' Facebook page. Event tickets are only available to be purchased online, with tickets sales closing on February 17.
