Despite the lack of grass on the course and cracks in the ground big enough to lose a golf cart wheel down, on Friday, September 13, more than 100 people travelled to the Mungindi Golf Club for the Mungindi Cotton Growers Association Annual Charity Golf Day.

In a fantastic effort, $16,000 was raised and donated to sixteen community groups from Mungindi.
Event organiser Tristram Hertslet said the Cotton Growers Association has been overwhelmed with the generosity of the event's sponsors.
"The 16 community groups we were able to raise money for are feeling the effects of the drought as much, if not more, than anyone," he said.
"It is amazing that in this terrible season we still have the support of 45 sponsors. It's a real credit to them, especially the Platinum sponsors who donated $1000 each to the cause"
The nine hole ambrose event was fun filled with teams in dress up themes and novelty events spread around the course.
Best dressed team went to Rob Riordan and Steve Ward in their Meter Maid uniforms and first place team went to Pat Wade, Wayne Taylor and Bill Dawson.
Mungindi Community Preschool catered lunch for 120 guests, when all players downed clubs, for some refreshments and presentations of donations to the sixteen community groups by the platinum sponsors.
The community groups who received donations were Mungindi Hospital Auxiliary, Home and Community Care, Mungindi Grasshoppers Junior Rugby League, Mungindi Fishing Club, Mungindi Community Preschool, Mungindi Central School Preschool, St Joseph's School, St Joseph's Parish, Mungindi Golf Club, Mungindi Little Athletics, Mungindi Swimming Club, Mungindi Pony Club, Mungindi Junior Netball, Mungindi Home for the Aged, Mungindi Progress Association and Mungindi Anglican Church.
Mungindi Cotton Growers Association President Tristram Hertslet thanked all of the sponsors, in particular the eleven platinum sponsors, B & W Rural, Cotton Australia, Evolution Farming, Bayer, Namoi Cotton, Wyadrigah Pastoral Co, Moree Real Estate, CSD, Irritek and Mungindi Ginning, who were huge supporters of the Mungindi community.
"It's great for everyone to be able to have a fun day out, where we can also raise much needed funds for the groups that give so much to our community," he said.
