"The kids in year seven have been working on a little collection of poetry," St Philomena's School teacher Jonathan McCallum said.
"Zines are just short, independent magazines that they can put together themselves.
"Each zine will have between four to six poems the kids have written and they'll all follow a specific theme."

The students will present their work at the school's zine fair next week.
"The kids have been working on developing their writing abilities and next Tuesday from 2.20pm to 3pm, they just have a chance to have the zines they produced on display and be available for sale for a gold coin donation for Vinnies," Mr McCallum said.
Some of the students may present some of their work to those in attendance but Mr McCallum said it's more "for people to drop by when they can to see what the kids produced."
Year seven students last year participated in the same writing exercises last year, with all of the students enjoying the experience.
"Some of the kids expressed last year they would love to have what they had done showcased," Mr McCallum said.
So this year the school has decided to open it up to the Moree community, with anyone welcome to head to the school and see what the students' hard work has resulted in.
Once again, their creativity has been on show and Mr McCallum said all the students have really enjoyed the experience, particularly some of those who may not enjoy English as much.
"I think it's given them something they can work towards where they can really flex their creativity is something they've all really enjoyed," he said.
"The kids have been enjoying reading different poems and figuring out how they're going to write their own."
The St Philomena's School zine fair will be held on Tuesday, September 24 from 2.20 to 3pm.
All are welcome to attend, with copies of the students' zines available for purchase for a gold coin donation to St Vincent De Paul Society.
