Sienna Ritchie and Max Newick both finished first in shot put after throwing 7.84m and 9.65m respectively at the Secondary Diocesan Athletics Carnival hosted at O'Connor Catholic College in Armidale at the end of last month.
Secondary sports coordinator, Josh Ambrose, said the students' hard work had paid off.
"Sienna had happy tears when she won. It's good to see the students really care about what they are doing, and they are having a good crack," he said.

"They have both been training all term in out and out of school hours and with the help of primary teacher David Powell too. They are automatically disadvantaged not being from a big school, which means they have to work harder," Ambrose said.
"It's good to see someone from a small school excelling and it will be a great experience for them to compete at that level. It will be a chance for them to see where they stand against others at that exceptional level," he said.
Meanwhile, The following primary students have qualified to represent the Armidale Diocese at the Polding Athletics Carnival in Sydney: George Kirkby (100m), Olivia Turner (100m, 200m), Alex Reardon (100m), Jack Gobbert (1500m, 800m), Caleb Fleming (1500m), Zara Cogan (100m, 200m, 800m, 1500m) and Jack Farrel (800m).
Zara Cogan was also named Senior Girl Champion and Olivia Turner 11 Years Girl Runner-Up at the Armidale Diocesan Athletics Carnival in Tamworth recently where the students qualified to compete in Sydney.
