Norman Roberts, Hugh Ross, Jock Riley and Vincent Coventry competed against 10 other teams, and were just 20 seconds from a top three finish and a medal.
Coach Steele Sutton was extremely impressed with their effort, saying they rode a near perfect race.
The boys then competed in the Randwick club racing along with Sunny Henderson and Kass O'Neil.
All riders competed safely and applied a good level of skill in the event, with Norman Roberts finishing fifth in his division.
This was the last state open event for the year and the local riders are now focusing on the Moree Services Cycle and Triathlon Club events, which kicked off on August 10.
