The Peter Sinclair-trained gelding, a seven-year-old son of Starcraft, fought off the Kelly Smith-trained Ayham to post a half head win in the $22,000 HopeFuel Open Handicap (1300m).
Upstart's stablemate, Track Flash was a length and a quarter away third while a second stablemate, Free Billy, was unplaced.
Moree trainer Peter Sinclair wasn't at Gunnedah today where his son, Nathan, was in charge.
Brooke Stower was the winning jockey. She had also ridden the gelding at his previous wins at Moree and Goondiwindi.
"Pete's got him great order," Stower said.
"He's found the key to him. I can't thank the owners and Pete enough for putting me on. He never travelled that well today but he still got the job done.
"Nathan Sinclair said his father has 'got him [Upstart] right'. He's put three wins together well. Track Flash also finished well. That was a good run for him going to that big Picnic Final at Dubbo."
