Moree Plains Shire Council is currently in the process of installing four brand new LED field lights at cricket field number four at Ron Harborne Oval, which will provide greater and safer night time use of the facility.
The lighting project, which is jointly funded by the state government's Stronger Country Communities Fund and Moree Plains Shire Council, is the first stage of the $1.5 million upgrade of Ron Harborne Oval.

"This will mean any sport will be able to be played under lights, which makes sense given Moree's summer climate," Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall said during an inspection of the lights on Tuesday.
"For working families, playing at night often makes sport more accessible for people."
The old lights will be removed and reinstalled at the netball courts, which have never been lit.
"The old lights aren't strong enough for the oval, but they'll be perfect for the netball courts," Mr Marshall said.
The new lighting posts were erected last week and the lights are expected to be installed this week. Council workers are currently undertaking trenching and wiring works.
It is hoped the project will be completed by the end of the month, and then Moree Junior Cricket Club is planning to have a switch-on event to try out the lights for the first time.
