Currently sitting in fourth position, Moree 2 opened the day with an important game against third placed Wee Waa United, as they look to close the gap between the two sides.
Moree 2 proved too strong in a 2-1 win, their first against Wee Waa this season.
With one of their strongest teams on the park for the first time this season, coach Darrel Smith walked away very pleased with the victory.
"We tried to play a little bit different, by putting pressure on them down the field rather than waiting for them to come at us," Smith said.
"They've got some really quick forwards...if we can close down the midfield and stop that ball coming through that'll give us more of a chance to get the ball up the field."

Wee Waa might have had more shots but Smith said Moree's defensive pressure meant Wee Waa were forced to take more difficult attempts.
"They were always wider shots where we forced them to play down the sidelines," he said.
"It was a really good game. We probably only had five or six shots, but we put two of them in the net."
Smith is hoping the side can continue to get the same team on the field each week, as they look to find more consistency leading into finals, but overall it was one of their better performances of the year.
"The first 15 minutes of each half, we really kept possession really well and knocked the ball around. We've just got to do that for longer periods of the game," Smith said.
"I think it was really good across the whole park. Everyone just did their job and cut out a lot of the opportunities they had.
"It was a really solid performance from the whole team.
Moree Services Club 1 have acquired an important win to keep a stranglehold on second spot.
Coming up against Narrabri Crossroads 11, Moree 1 did what they needed to do in a 5-0 win, but coach Matt Urquhart said it was far from a perfect performance and was particularly unhappy about a poor start.
"We were letting their mids and forwards have too much space and too much time," Urquhart said.
"I think the other side were really unfortunate to not get a goal or two in the first half hour.
We just allowed them to run a bit too much, that's something we've got to kind of work on over the next couple of games."
Bailey Bourke and Adam Schubert each scored two goals in the win, while the fifth was an own goal off a corner, which Urquhart said was quite unlucky.
His main focus moving forward will be to make sure the team doesn't suffer from any lapses in concentration that let them down at times on Saturday.
"They were just letting the opposition have too much time and space but then once we got that picked up and got the ball moving, our passing was really good," Urquhart said.
