Minister for Regional Youth Bronwyn Taylor, who recently visited Inverell's I C YOUTH centre whilst in town for The National's Conference, hopes the taskforce will bring together young people from different parts of the state.
The taskforce will advise Minister Taylor on issues relating to regional youth, and provide advice and comment on government policies that effect young people.
According to the NSW Government's website, applications are open for youth to nominate themselves as a member for those aged between 12 and 24.
The Minister hopes to seek advice on topics such as employment or lack of, mental health and wellbeing, impacts of drought, getting around, difficulty accessing services and having things to do.
The Regional Youth Taskforce will be solutions-focused and will be expected to meet about four times a year, twice in person and twice through Skype.
Meetings are likely to take place on weekends or in school holidays. Although voluntary, flights and accommodation, where necessary, will be covered.
Local youth have until 11.59pm on Monday, August 5 to apply for their spot on the taskforce. Questions can be directed to the Office for Regional Youth via the email address regionalyouth@dpc.nsw.gov.au.
You'll need to add the following:
- provide your thoughts on how you would solve an issue affecting young people in your region
- share a little bit of information about who you are, including life experience, work experience or volunteer experience (this will take about 15 minutes to complete)
- tell us the top three issues for young people in your region.
Your application will be considered in the light of how well you explain the issues affecting young people in your region and how effective and innovative your solutions might be.
