As part of the NAIDOC Week celebrations, the club faced off against Narrabri Crossroads 11 and Narrabri FC to be the first teams to win the NAIDOC shield.

There was an Aboriginal dance group performance, a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony held before the on-field action kicked off.

Moree 2 opened the day with their match against Narrabri Crossroads.

Having lost seven games in a row, Moree were desperate for a win and delivered with an impressive 6-0 thrashing.

Joe Coleman was unstoppable playing up forward, scoring five of the goals on his own.

"He had a hat-trick in the first 20 minutes of the game," coach Darrel Smith said.

Smith said having a bench for the first time in recent memory played a significant role in the win.

The side has always had a consistent showing from 10 or so players, but have rarely had a bench to make some substitutions and get some rest throughout their games.

"I think we had four reserves which made it a lot easier for us," Smith said.

"We got a bit of a chance to refresh and then go back out again."

One of the most pleasing things about the performance was keeping Narrabri scoreless, with Adrian Davison making some good saves in goal and the bench once again an important factor.

"That was one of the areas we've been working on," Smith said.

"As we've tired towards the end of the game we've let a few goals in."

Along with Coleman, Kenny Wright was strong in the midfield for Moree, controlling the middle of the field and delivering good ball to Coleman and Ben Schubert up front.

In the other game, Moree 1 went down in a nail-biting top of the table clash against Narrabri FC.

Having not lost since round seven, Moree lost 2-1 against the ladder leaders.

Despite the mixed results, it was a fantastic day for the club, with the NAIDOC round to continue each year.

The club also ordered special Indigenous jerseys which didn't arrive in time for the match but they will be on full display for next year's games.
