Down by just a single goal heading into the final quarter, the Moree Suns were as close to a victory as they have been all season.
However, with the wind at their back, the Tamworth Kangaroos kicked seven goals to the Suns two in the fourth to run away with a 19-5-119 to 12-12-84 win at Leitch Oval in Narrabri.
Prior to opening bounce, the Suns lost two players in the warm up, including Zak Bozanich who starred in last week's game, making the task of bouncing back from the loss also against the Kangaroos last week more difficult.
The strong wind from end to end played a big role throughout the match, and with the breeze the Suns went into the first break with a slender six-point lead.
The Kangaroos were able to take further advantage of the strong breeze, kicking six goals to three in the second quarter to go into half time with a 9-3-57 to 7-5-47 lead.
The Suns fought their way back into the match and it was anyone's game heading into the final term but the Kangaroos proved too strong.
Both sides had the same amount of scoring shots proving it an even game but inaccuracies in front of goal from the Suns compared to the Kangaroos' efficiency was the difference.
Elliott Bowen once again starred for the Tamworth side with nine goals while Adrian Smith kicked six for the Suns.
Suns coach Eric Faulkner said they did well to get another team on the park with a number of players out due to other sporting commitments.
"We lost two in the warm up which is always tough," Faulkner said.
"Momentum swung both ways most of the match and we just ran out of legs.
"It was a great, hard fought game to the end."
Jack Montgomery was a standout for the Suns, playing the entire game in the ruck while Matt Lather and Smith were also strong.
"Jack, Adrian (Smith) and the other young fellers really hit the ground running," Faulkner said.
The Suns will now face one of the toughest trips in the competition when they take on the undefeated Bulldogs in Gunnedah next weekend.
