Featuring micro exhibitions from six local solo artists and an artist collective, a themed group exhibition, an arts and craft market, artist talks and workshops, there will be something to inspire everyone's creative side during the month-long celebration, which aims to encourage and promote the work of local and regional artists.
For the inaugural BAMM Art Fair, artists from across the region were invited to submit works to the themed group exhibition, Visions of Colour.
The exhibition includes works by artists from Narrabri, Inverell, Goondiwindi, Walgett and further afield.
There will also be seven micro exhibitions on show, with Moree artists given the opportunity to display a collection of their works in their own dedicated gallery space.
"The success of the Moree Portrait Prize has encouraged us to do more for local artists," BAMM director Vivien Clyne said.
"We want to show their work and local audiences want to see it. It's important for us to make space in our program to celebrate what's happening locally, as well as nationally, in the art scene."
The micro exhibitions include:
- Created Nature by Moree Secondary College art and drama teacher Tim Barklay, who draws on his hobby of miniature modelling to create a series of sculptures from found objects as he explores the relationship between the human and natural worlds;
- Greg Fisher's Wonder Emporium of Mathematical Explorium by Moree Plains Shire Council engineer Greg Fisher who creates sculptures based on the mathematical principles that inform his day job, exploring the history behind theoretical shapes and patterns;
- Home is what you make it, a series of paintings by Josie Birchall which was inspired by her and her family's experience making homes of river banks, road sides and national parks in their caravan while travelling from Tasmania to Moree;
- Birds of a Feather by keen bird photographer Teeny Runza who has extended her artistic practice to creating sculptures of birds using recycled materials, in particular silverware, to reflect light.
- Abundance by Maisie Johnson who draws inspiration from our natural, ever-changing environment to create artworks using textiles and watercolours.
- Nick Osmond, a collection of semi-abstract paintings by Nick Osmond who is influenced by familiar names in Australian art including Sidney Nolan, Adam Cullen and Ben Quilty.
- Connect by collective artists Janet Doyle, Lesley Hawker, Kate Owen and Terri-Ann Crothers who connect as mothers, wives, friends, farmers and artists and make works which create visual metaphors of their rural existence.
All artworks on exhibition will be priced for sale, with proceeds directly benefitting the artists and BAMM.
To launch BAMM Art Fair and kick-off the festivities, there will be an opening night cocktail party from 6pm, to 10pm on Friday, June 28.
The cocktail party will provide an exclusive first-look at the exhibitions, giving people the opportunity to purchase an original art piece and celebrate and support the local and regional artists on show.
"Explore the open group exhibition Visions of Colour featuring entrants from across Australia, and seven 'micro' exhibitions from artists in the Moree Shire," Ms Clyne said.
"All works will be on sale, so don't miss your chance to celebrate and support local and regional artists at this years' annual fundraiser!"
Tickets are $40, which includes a drink on arrival, a stand-up noodle box dinner catered by Toby Osmond and live music by Ritchie Hair.
"I'll be a fun, cocktail party atmosphere," Ms Clyne said.
Tickets can be purchased at www.trybooking.com/book/event?eid=512007
The Art Fair will then continue the following day, on Saturday, June 29 with the Arts and Craft Market in the BAMM garden from 9am to 1pm.
There will also be a series of events held throughout July to inspire Moree residents to develop their own artistic pursuits. These include Art After Dark, featuring artist talks, on July 4, a weaving workshop with Maisie Johnson on July 6, a paper making workshop with Yvonne Ledingham on July 13, BAMM studio open day on July 20 and a Paint Your Art workshop with Dani Buchanan on July 21.
