A bit of rain throughout the region in the morning didn't turn off race-goers as a large crowd of around 1600 people turned up to catch a fantastic day of racing and entertainment.

Mallawa Amateur Picnic Race Club secretary Ed Seccombe said it was a "cracking day" for all involved.

"We had a couple of great races. We had a great calcutta," he said.

"The kids activities we organised, the face painting and sandpit, went off well.

"The club put on free coffees for the best part of the day we got good feedback from the patrons, it was much appreciated."

The large crowd enjoyed six exciting races throughout the day, and while Track Flash wasn't able to win consecutive Mallawa Picnic Cups, it was still a successful outing for Moree trainer Peter Sinclair with horse Oh Why taking out the main race by a whopping eight lengths.

The fun continued well into the night, with much of the crowd enjoying some live music from Gold Coast band Trace.

"Nothing bad happened on the night. It was a pretty good night," Mr Seccombe said.

"The bar was pretty well pumping, it was a great atmosphere. We had a bloody good day.

"It was a bloody cracking atmosphere. We're thankful for all the people from Moree and the greater community for coming out and making it a great day.

"Days like that make the region. Hopefully Talmoi can do it again in a fortnight."

The Golden Triangle will wrap up at the Talmoi Picnic Races, which will be held on Saturday June 22 at Garah Race Course.
