Nominations are now open for the 2019 Moree Reconciliation Awards, which recognise individual, business, community organisations and initiatives that are advancing reconciliation and respectful relationships in Moree - whether it's building cross-cultural understanding through employment or training initiatives, education, and partnerships, or engaging with the local community.
There are 32 awards up for grabs for both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people, including the big ones - male and female Elder of the Year (Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal), Citizen of the Year (Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal), Youth of the Year (Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal), Business of the Year and Community Organisation of the Year (funded and voluntary).
The other awards are senior and junior Sportsperson of the Year (Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal), the Uncle Albert Dennison Caring for Country Award, School Based Traineeship (Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal), Traineeship (Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal), School Based Apprenticeship (Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal), Apprenticeship (Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal), Employee of the Year (Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal) and the Mental Health Recovery Award (Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal).
Nominations close on Friday, May 17.
Award winners will be announced at the 2019 Moree Reconciliation Gala Awards evening, to be held at Moree Town Hall on Friday, May 31, as part of 2019 Reconciliation Week.
National Reconciliation Week runs annually from May 27 to June 3. This year's theme is 'Grounded in truth. Walk together with courage', which encourages all Australians to build positive race relationships based on truthfulness.
