While the Bulls defended well to keep Barraba out of their 22 in their 65-19 win, their defence inside their 22 was disappointing coach Damien Kelly said.
"We defensively weren't put under a lot of pressure but when they did get down there we let them in cheaply," he said.
"It's something they should have had a bit more pride in."
And will need to against a Rams side that has scored 50-plus points in their last three games.
Part of the reason Kelly felt was that they spent so much time attacking, they probably just didn't switch on.
The players to their credit recognised that.
"At half-time the players themselves, that was the first thing they said," Kelly said.
"'Our desperation in defence wasn't good enough', which was the first thing I was going to say."
It was the only real negative of what was as the scoreboard suggests a dominant display, and a much-improved performance on their last round effort against Quirindi.
"We started a lot better than what we have been in the start of the season," Kelly said.
They were also a lot more patient and "played a bit smarter" particularly playing with the wind behind them in the second half.
"We didn't try to score off first or second phase, which is what we asked them to do," he said.
"Every time we got the ball down our end we went four or five phases and went wide and the backs found space."
Fullback Dan Sweeney, outside centre Damien Meppem and replacement back Jono Spain all crossed for doubles.
Kelly reckoned Sweeney was the best on ground.
"I thought he was excellent," he said.
"In defence he was in there turning balls over and he made pretty good decisions at the back."
The three Smith boys - Will, Angus and Lachlan - also "put in a good shift."
Will shared the two points with Jackson Fernance, John Adams in his 100th game for the club picking up the three points and players' player.
"We played like a team for the first time this year," Kelly said.
"That side of it was pleasing.
"In saying that we've got Walcha at home and we need to up the ante."
"If we play like we did (on Saturday) it will keep us in the contest but we won't win it."
