Moree 2 opened the day against Narrabri Crossroads 11 and cruised to a 24-0 thrashing.
New addition at striker Bailey Bourke scored 11 goals himself, while Adam Schubert added seven. Joseph Coleman (2), Jordan Riddle (2), Clint Thompson (1) and Justin Politis (1) made up the rest.
Moree 2 coach Matthew Urquhart said it's hard to judge the performance, given Narrabri Crossroads brought quite a young and inexperienced side over.
"They played a lot of juniors, but credit to them they played the whole game and didn't stop," he said.
"The passing was good, we were a bit too keen to shoot it sometimes, but passing all round was good."
Moree 1 played Narrabri FC in a grand final rematch but it didn't go their way, a slow start the catalyst in a 5-1 loss.
Narrabri scored all five of their goals in the opening 30 minutes and while Moree were able to drag themselves back into the match, it wasn't enough.
"The first half and hour absolutely killed us," coach Darrel Smith said.
"They blew us off the park. They came out with a lot of energy, played really high tempo football. They just ran us off the park.
"After that we got back into control and got our shape back into place, got our defence in line and that was basically the difference."
Smith said the players started to drop their heads but they had a good talk at half time and came out much stronger in the second half, getting their lone goal through Sachin Ransamy and holding Narrabri scoreless.
"When we get our mindset right we can compete with them, we just weren't in the right mindset to start the game," he said.
"I'd rather get those types of floggings at the start of the season compared to the end.
"It gives us something to look at. They've improved a lot from last year.
"We've got a slightly different team from last year but I think we can still have a team to get through to the grand final."
Smith pointed out the two centre backs in Adam Ha and Sam Adams who had strong performances after struggling to deal with continuous overlaps to start the game.
"In the second half they got us organised and back into our playing shape and cut a lot of their attack in the second half," Smith said.
After the Easter break, Moree 1 will have the bye while Moree 2 will take on Narrabri FC in an attempt to get revenge for their club mates.
