The event is set to bring more than 100 people to Moree, between shooters and their families, from across NSW and southern Queensland.
Through the competition, the NSW Western Zone team will be selected to move on and compete at nationals up against other zones, with the opportunity to continue moving up the ranks and potentially compete for the national team if you shoot well enough.
"We actually had a shooter, Clyde Mitchell, get selected to shoot in the national team," Moree Clay Target Club committee member Anne Johnston.
"Next year he'll go to England competing for Australia. It's pretty cool to be able to say we have someone shooting for Australia."
The weekend will begin at 12pm on Friday, April 19 with the Western Zone competition, as well as the state Deauville Doubles competition, where two people will shoot at targets at the same time.
The Western Zone competition will continue on Saturday, beginning at 9am with double barrel and single barrel events before the Night Point Score in the evening, which will be the championships and where shooters will get selected for the state team.

The final events will be held on Sunday from 9am with the double barrel graded cash divide and the Western Zone Point Score before finishing the weekend off with the Black Field Plains and Western Zone handicap championship.
"That's where all the shooters, no matter what grade they are, the compete against each other and pick out the top five shooters that will get placings," Johnston said.
"We're very fortunate with sponsors for that event and the whole weekend because they have been continual in supporting us and giving us good cash prizes. It draws people into Moree.
"For our weekend we'll have a variety of people. Juniors 12 and up as well as the ladies, opens and our veterans competition."
There will also be a shooters jackpot of $2400 up for grabs, which can be won if you shoot the entire weekend without missing a target.
"That is a really hard thing to do. We have 350 targets that we have to try and shoot," Johnston said.
"We haven't really given out too many jackpots. There are a few shooters than can shoot it clean, but it all depends on the weather."
The carnival will be held at the Moree Clay Target Club at 157 Back Pally Road from Friday, April 19 to Sunday, April 21.
Nominations will be open from 11am on Friday and 8am on Saturday and Sunday, with practice time available from 9am to 10.30am on Friday morning.
