Emily Ryan and Emily Cosgrove were presented for judging at Moree Town and Country Club on Sunday, April 7.
This year, instead of just having the interviews with the judges and an afternoon tea, as in previous years, the reintroduction of a luncheon added an additional element to the judging process and provided the showgirl entrants with the opportunity to practise their public speaking skills in front of a small crowd.
About 35 people from a wide cross-section of the community attended the luncheon, during which they enjoyed a delicious two-course meal catered by the women's club while getting to know this year's showgirl entrants.

Moree Showgirl coordinator Kate Lumber said it was a lovely day and a great success.
"I was really happy with the day, it was a great opportunity for the girls to meet like-minded and passionate people in the Moree community and build their public speaking and interpersonal skills," she said.
"Mother Nature really did turn it on and we enjoyed a beautiful long lunch on the lawns of the women's club."
Ms Lumber said the luncheon can only benefit the showgirl entrants, particularly during the next stage of the competition, which is heavily dependent on public speaking.
"I would really like to see it become an annual thing, I believe it's great capacity-building for the entrants and also promotes the showgirl and show movement within our local community," she said.
Although there's only two entrants this year, Ms Lumber was impressed with how they both conducted themselves at the luncheon.
"This year's entrants are great, two very different girls but they are both extremely passionate about Moree and strive to be active contributors in their community," she said.
"Both girls are a great asset to the showgirl competition and will go on to be great ambassadors for Moree."
Prior to the luncheon, both entrants were interviewed by the three judges - 2009 Moree Showgirl and 2011 NSW Rural Achiever Toni Dakis, 2017 Warialda Showgirl and current Warialda Showgirl coordinator Claudia Cush and Moree Rotary Club president Steven Harris.
The girls will meet up again on the first day of the Moree Show on Friday, April 26, where they will be involved in the day's events before the winner is announced at the Show's official opening ceremony at 2.45pm on Saturday, April 27.
Meet the 2019 Moree Showgirl entrants
Name: Emily Ryan
Age: 20
Occupation: Emily currently manages the Moree and Tenterfield clinics for visiting cardiologist Professor Ross Sharpe.
Favourite thing about Moree Show: The art pavilion, as it showcases all our local talent.
Reason for entering the showgirl competition: I entered showgirl for the chance to meet like-minded women who see the importance of rural health. I also saw this an opportunity to grow as an individual. I feel passionate about breaking the sitgma that follows all showgirl competitions.
What do you hope to gain from the experience? I hope gain from this experience the chance to empower women from Moree, to rise and become strong ambassadors.
Where do you see yourself in five years? I see myself in five years continuing to study, as well as providing a strong contribution to the showgirl movement.
Name: Emily Cosgrove
Age: 18
Occupation: Childcare assistant at Gwydir Daycare and Preschool
Favourite thing about Moree Show: It brings the community together to have fun and enjoy a weekend full of family time. The show is also a great time where the community can produce, create and display what they love doing in all the pavilions and our local talents are on display for everyone to see.
Reason for entering the showgirl competition: I decided to enter the Moree Showgirl competition because it is an amazing experience, which 2018 Moree Showgirl Bronte Marshall expressed to me and I wish to have the same experience as Bronte. I think it is a great opportunity to take and I am here as a 2019 entrant to show other young women to step outside of their comfort zone and be confident in who they are. I hope that other young women can take on this same experience and journey next year and in many years to come.
What do you hope to gain from the experience? From this experience I wish to take away self-growth as well as the abilities to inspire, encourage and support young girls and women throughout the Moree community. I hope for this experience to bring to myself a stronger community involvement and many lifelong friendships.
Where do you see yourself in five years? My goals and aspirations are to become a teacher so I can give back to the education system and especially Moree for the fantastic education that I was presented with. In five years I see myself as a teacher in Moree. I hope that within five years I am still apart of the showgirl movement, as inspiring and encouraging young girls and women to step out of their comfort zones is what I wish for the present and future therefore, the showgirl movement supports this hope of mine and I believe the showgirl movement and the Moree Show will be a consistent event and passion within my future.
