McDonald fought against Gunnedah's Michael Kleinschafer, his fitness level and agility the difference against a strong opponent, winning on a unanimous points decision by the judges and capping off a spectacular night in which all Moree boxers remained undefeated.
He had trained especially hard for the title fight, sparring with former boxers Tony Hall and Brett Wright, who are both tall with similar builds to Kleinschafer, giving him good preparation and especially practising his overhand right against the taller opponent.
"We knew that would be a great weapon going in, we worked very hard on it," Moree Boxing Academy president Danny Cheetham said.
Moree's Jack Ross opened the night, winning his exhibition bout against Coffs Harbou's Javad Jakmaksar.
Twin brothers Connor and Kupah Williams also took to the ring against each other, a fight which Cheetham said was one of the best of the night.

The final two bouts before the main event featured Moree's Zack Crouch and Moree Boars captain coach Stanley Swan.
Crouch took on Levi Kearny, an up and coming boxer from Sydney and won via a unanimous points decision and was awarded the North West bantamweight title, his second title along with the Central West bantumweight title and kept his unbeaten record in tact.
Swan then took to the ring against a very strong and heavier opponent in Parkes' Coby Lees and proved too good once again via a unanimous points decision.
"Stanley won every round, it was a complete shut out," Cheetham said.
"I really believe Stanley is an elite athlete, to be able to switch from league to boxing and back to league is not easy to do, only a special person could do it.
"Not only is he an elite athlete in the ring, but a tremendous human being outside the ring."
Cheetham said it was a fantastic night for the town, with 19 corporate tables sold and the general admission seating almost full.
"It was a great night and as we walked to the ring for those last three fights, every person was on their feet and applauding," he said.
"It was a tremendous atmosphere, the crowd got right behind our boys and helped lift them over the line."
"I'd like to thank all the sponsors and all the town people that supported the show, and the committee that worked so hard to make it a success.
"It was just a great night for the Moree town and I think the townspeople feel proud to be from Moree to see our boxers do so well."
