MUNA is a Rotary youth program for senior high school students to develop an awareness of the United Nations and the countries they represent at a simulated UN Assembly.
Moree Secondary College students Aliyah Quisaot and Natalija Stanojevic (year 10) will represent the Philippines and Grace Carter and Brennan Cumberland (year 11) will represent Iceland during the Rotary district MUNA, to be held in Gunnedah from Friday, April 5 to Sunday, April 7.
The students will meet other students from around the district and will join in a dinner and disco on the Saturday night.
The team that places first in the district will be invited to compete at the Australian National MUNA at the Old Parliament House in Canberra.
Moree Secondary College careers advisor Sheree Cayirylys would like to thank Moree-on-Gwydir Rotary Club for sponsoring both teams, Rotarians in Gunnedah for billeting out the students (deputy mayor of Gunnedah Shire Council Rob Hook and wife Renee; Brett and Cathy Reynolds) and organising the event (Pat and Kel Walls) and Miss Ellis for mentoring and coaching the students prior to attending.
"The students and myself cannot thank Kate Brennan enough for all she has done for the students," Ms Cayirylys said.
"Kate volunteered to transport the students, made amazing table decorations and packs of pens, chocolates and lollies and was their team counsellor."
