The year 11 student was one of four competitors - including winners from South Tamworth, Gunnedah and Wee Waa Lions clubs - who competed in the region final at Gunnedah on Saturday, March 16.
In addition to an interview with the judges, the competitors had to deliver a prepared speech on a topic of their own choice, and answer two impromptu questions - 'Year 12 is stressful for all students, how do you balance school and life?' and 'If you were running in the upcoming state election, what promises would you make?'
Chris once again delivered a thought-provoking speech on passions and how they can motivate people, with a few tweaks from his local level speech to make it more personal.
In answer to the balance of school and life question, Chris spoke about the importance of having a life outside of school and an outlet, such as sport of exercise, to help cope with the pressures of the HSC.
His second impromptu speech focussed on ensuring a sustainable future - "not just in agriculture, but making sure we have a sustainable government and society and building a world we want our grandkids' grandkids to grow up in".
Chris ended up placing second in the public speaking section of the judging, however it was his interview which really won over the judges and saw him win the regional title.
While he thought he "went alright" in his speeches, Chris certainly didn't expect to win.
"It's the first time I've done any form of public speaking competition, so I just tried to enjoy it," he said.
He's now looking forward to competing in the zone final at Port Macquarie this Saturday, March 30.
"I'm pretty excited now," he said.
"Having won the region final against other people who have done this before was a pretty good confidence boost.
"I'm hoping to represent Moree Lions Club well."
