They weren’t keeping score but Moree Services FC president Alex Madden said it was great to get a game under their belt midway through the preseason.
“We had probably about 23 blokes turn up for Moree which was good,” he said.
“It was good to trial a few different combinations an positions before the FFA cup.”
The club has been training hard preparing for the Namoi League season as well as the FFA Cup which is beginning for them in March.
The round two draw was released on Monday, February 11, with 26 teams competing in the Northern Conference, consisting of clubs from Football Far North Coast (FFNC), Football Mid North Coast (FMNC), North Coast Football (NCF) and Northern Inland Football (NIF).
Moree Services FC have drawn the Demon Knights FC from Armidale, which was actually the same team they drew in last year’s competition, with the game to be played on Sunday, March 3.
Madden said they have experience playing against Demon Knights from their time in the Northern Inland Premier League.
After some good results in the FFA Cup, Madden knows the Demon Knights will be tough to beat.
“They won three FFA games last year so they got a decent way through,” Madden said.
“They're going to be a good squad, they've got plenty of people to choose from.”
Madden says the club has been enjoying a strong preseason as they look to make it three titles in a row in the Namoi League.
“We're getting more and more each week,” he said.
“I think we had about 22 last Thursday, so if we can get high 20s each week we're going to be in good stead for the season.”
Moree Services FC trains every Sunday and Thursday at 6pm at the Moree Services Club.
