The pathway was built by the urban crew with Moree Plains Shire Council and was funded by the Stronger Country Communities Fund.
It was completed in time for the Moree Twilight Races in December 2018 and has already proven successful.
Moree Plains Shire Council executive projects manager John Carleton said it came down to a matter of safety.
“It was a high priority, police were concerned because of people at the races and people walking on the streets, and when it's raining it just exacerbates the risk,” he said.
“It's a safe passage here all the way to the bridge and then into town, so wherever people live, it'll keep them off the road.”

Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall said the new pathway will also make the police happy.
“This is mainly here because a lot of people just walk when they finish at the races,” Mr Marshall said.
“At least now they can walk along this. It's a lot safer, the police are happy because they're not on the highway. It's good.”
Mr Marshall also praised the efforts of the council crew.
“They did the work internally with their own crew, finished in record time,” he said.
“It’s high quality, it’ll last. The community is already using it a lot.”
